Kids Yoga Workshops

Intro to Yoga for Kids (Ages 5-8)
Wednesday July 18th, 1:30 – 2:45

Through movement, breath and relaxation our young yoga students develop self-confidence, self-control and self-awareness. Starting them young on the mat reaps long-term benefits and gives them the foundation for a strong mind and body.
This workshop introduces the basic postures and concepts of yoga and breathwork in an engaging way that encourages self-expression and builds social skills. Using music, crafts, books, games, and props, the children are given a safe and positive environment to begin their yoga practice and have fun! Children will learn how to develop strength, flexibility, and coordination. They will learn positive breathing and relaxation techniques to deal with day to day stresses. After moving our bodies and relaxing our minds, we’ll end the workshop with a craft, a mindful jar, that kids can take home with them. No yoga experience needed, all levels welcome!
• 1 hour and 15 minute workshop
• Price: $20 (includes cost of craft supplies)
• Bring: water and a mat (It’s ok if you don’t have one, we have extra!)
• Please wear comfortable clothes – we’ll be moving a lot

Yoga and Mindfulness (Ages 8-11)
Saturday, July 7th, 1:30-3:00

Through movement, breath and relaxation our young yoga students develop self-confidence, self-control and self-awareness. Introducing tweens to yoga gives them tools they need to improve concentration, reduce stress, and explore their bodies and feelings in a fun and positive way.
In this workshop, students will have a chance to learn about yoga and themselves in a safe, non-competitive, and nurturing environment. These classes are energetically inspiring and include flowing sequences, balancing postures, group and partner work, yoga games and activities, plus breathwork and relaxation. This class will help students to improve strength, flexibility, coordination and self-confidence. Students will learn how to take their yoga practice off the mat to help find ease in the face of today’s challenges. After moving our bodies and relaxing our minds, we’ll end the workshop with a fun craft. Students will be able to design and make a mala or mantra rocks that they can take home. No yoga experience needed, all levels welcome!

Meet the Teacher

Rachel Stagnaro, 200 RYT, and Certified Kids Yoga Instructor
I have been practicing yoga for over 20 years. During that time, yoga has helped me deal with anything that came my way – including stress, grief, becoming a parent, and everything in between. I wanted to share the gift of yoga with others, and was thrilled to find the teacher training program at Leela Yoga Studio. Since graduation, I have concentrated my focus on children. I have completed certification programs with YogaEd, Kidding Around Yoga, and GoGoYoga for Kids. I am also the founder of Zen Kids Yoga, which brings yoga to local studios, schools, preschools, and daycares in the area.
I love being able to encourage kids, of all ages and abilities, to develop healthy habits, learn a deep love for themselves and others, and practice valuable self-regulation skills that will serve them throughout their lives. The best part of teaching is watching the joy as kids use creative energy and their imaginations to bring poses to life, all while learning techniques for balance, strength, focus and stress reduction. When not teaching yoga, I spend my time chasing my two active sons, hiking, and enjoying as much time in nature as possible.
